WISTA is an international organisation of women working in the shipping industry. Our members include naval architects, maritime lawyers, ship's engineers, insurance and sale and purchase brokers, claims adjusters and many others working both directly in the industry and providing services to the industry.

We organise events such as site visits, seminars, workshops and industry related events where our members have the opportunity of meeting and forming relationships with other professionals working within the shipping industry.

WISTA-UK is the oldest of all the National WISTA Associations dating back from 1974. We would like to welcome you to our site and discover who we are and what we do and of course we will be delighted to welcome you as our next member!

WISTA-UK supports the S.O.S campaign

The shipping industry-backed campaign to draw government attention to the crisis that is Somali piracy (SOS SaveOurSeafarers) is sending letters to heads of government via the SOS website www.saveourseafarers.com.

India is the number one receiver of the total of 8,500 SOS letters sent so far, with 1,460 letters received to date by India’s Prime Minister’s Office.

We encourage as many as possible to send a letter to their government – just two clicks will do it.

Of course governments should be engaged in efforts to tackle the root causes of piracy. But this work may take years to have effect. “In the meantime piracy is out of control,” says Capt. Graham Westgarth, chairman of Intertanko. “International trade is threatened. Governments need to protect the world’s shipping lanes by showing political will, not political indifference.”
